Budding and Grafting Workshop – Part One – Cancelled

Saturday, 21 March, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Budding and Grafting Workshop – Part One –Cancelled due to the current Pandemic

Friends of Noosa Botanic Gardens and Permaculture Noosa are very pleased to present a Budding and Grafting Workshop on Saturday 21 March, at 9.00 am at the Tinbeerwah Hall.

We all know that for many species of tree it is preferable to purchase a grafted variety—it can mean the tree is better able to cope with climatic conditions, and in many cases will result in fruiting years before a seeded variety. But grafted trees are always much more expensive to purchase because it is a labour-intensive job to get these trees ready for sale. If you’ve ever thought you’d like to do this yourself, this workshop provides a very special opportunity to learn about propagation of plants through budding and grafting—knowledge that can be applied to a great many species of tree. Our expert presenters Jenny Iriondo and Paul Plant will run through the differences between grafting and budding, and which technique is best used for which species.

They will cover the use, care and maintenance of equipment, and there will be multiple opportunities to try out budding citrus varieties, and grafting Australian natives. At the end of the workshop you will take home your new budded citrus tree, a grafted native, a budding and grafting knife and tape, and the knowledge to care for the new trees until they are ready for planting.

This workshop presents incredible value. Jenny and Paul will be available throughout the workshop to answer questions and help out on an individual basis. And also included in the cost of the course is all the equipment needed to continue propagating at home.

We can only take limited numbers for this workshop, so please book early.

There will be a follow up workshop later in the year where we will return with our budded and grafted trees, and hopefully practice grafting on other species – possibly mangoes and avocadoes. At this stage it is planned to run Part Two on Saturday October 24, at an anticipated cost of $20 (all details to be confirmed later in the year).
